Painting glass ball tutorial by the-Scarlet-Queen
If you're ready, let's start !
Step 1
Here is a basic form of the glass ball. Also, I painted some random objects (a branch and
a cube) just to show how the glass ball will distort and reflect objects in the nekt steps.
a cube) just to show how the glass ball will distort and reflect objects in the nekt steps.
Step 2
I added a bright highlight with hard edges (because the surface is glossy) and a shadow
under the bail Then I darkened the area beneath the highlight. This is the most important step
ta show our visual perception of the rays of "ght go through a transparent object and create
an effect of increased transparency in the area opposite the highlight
A solid glass ball always works as a lens, so the branch behind it will be distorted.

Step 3
Theinternal surface ofa glass object works as a distorted mirror. So I painted a reflection of the
highlight (1). This reflection willalways be the same color as a substance in which it exists, but lighter.
So, our reflected highlight is light-blue. The shadow under the ball is also reflected on the opposite
surface. So painted another reflection, but a dark one this time (2).
Also. I added two barely noticeable reflections Of the pink cube (3).

Step 4
is time to add a surface reflection on the bottom of the ball (1), some random reflexes (2) and a soft glow

u, near the highlight (3).
Step 5
To finish up, added a colored spot on the ground from the light which went through the ball, and a small,
transparent rainbow to strengthen the feeling of the light refraction.
