How to Paint Fire l Digital Painting Tutorials

If you're ready, let's start !

STEP 1

Lay out the basic shape of your fire with a big soft air brush set on low opacity in a dark reddish hue.

STEP 2

Use the same brush but reduce its size and choose a lighter orangy shade. Plot in some quick squiggly but approximately vertical lines.

STEP 3

  Reduce the brush size a little once more and choose a light yellowish tone. Add more vertical but loose strokes. Watch out: fire is generally lighter towards the bottom and the inside!

 STEP 4

Grab a soft smudge brush on high strength (80-90%) and begin blending the shapes with vertical movements. Be careful not to overdo it!! Too much smudging will make it look very unnatural.
 

 STEP 5 FINAL

 

 Add a few more highlights with a whitish hue as well as some embers with a small soft brush.
