Simple Feather Digital Painting Guide

If you're ready, let's start !

 Step 1 

1. Lay down the base colors at 100% Opacity and 100% Flow with
the Brush Tool

 Step 2 

2. Add some simple Shadows and Highlights with the Burn and Dodge
Tools

 Step 3 

3.Using the Smudge Tool,
select a sporadic spaced brush shape to add details to the outter edges of the feath­
er. Move inward.

 Step 4 

4. Using the Smudge Tool still, select a simple circular brush shape and move some of the
highlights and shadows toward the middle to create more detailed val-
uess.

 Step 5 

5. Darken the middle of the feath­ er a little bit more with the Burn Tool, then use the simple circular Smudge brush to extract more de­
tails.

Step 6 

6. Grab the Brush Tool and
with a lower opacity, paint above the middle of the feath­
er to cover the strokes left
over from the Smudge Tool. This will add more depth.
