How to draw Aladdin (Step by step) Character Design

 Step 1 

1. Basic Sketch. The har-dest step for me. Come up with story, pose, and basic design. Think gesture, draw verbs, not nouns.

 Step 2 

2. Refine the sketch. Think shape design. Overlaps, basic volume direction, shape flow.

 Step 3 

3. Refine further. I can't make pretty lines, so I need to iterate the lineart many times. Define the lightsources. Think of the environment.

 Step 4 

4. Final Lineart. Used levels to remove green. Always try to communi-cate the story. "A drawing without a story can never be good, a drawing with a story can never be wholly bad". - Walt Stanchfield.

 Step 5 

5. Lineart on top, I can add local colours, block in shadowshapes and Am-bient Occlusion. Cold lightsource makes warm shadows. Temperatures!

Step 6 

6. Painting with light. I usually start with the face, it gives me guide to the rest. Don't render everything equally. Stay in midtones as long as possible.

Step 7 

7. Further refmition. Star-ting to think about edges. Create focus with edge hardness. Soft edges recede in space.

 Step 8 

 

 8. Final Touches. Punching out colours, strenghtening light direc-tions. Total time spent between 10-15 hours
